If you’ve been blogging for sometimes now there is the probability you’re not just doing it as a hobby. There might be several reasons for your blogging and in most cases one of the top reasons is to make money. Even if you didn’t start blogging to make money you need to realize the great potential and power of blogging – it has made many people rich overnight and it will continue to do so.
This article will be giving you 10 of the most popular ways you can make money from your blog.
1. Banner Adverts
This technique is as old as business blogging itself and it is one of the best ways to make money blogging. We all watch TV programs only to see an advert suddenly displayed in the middle of the program and a lot of us also watch the world cup and other great events also to see a list of the top sponsors. The same thing happens in the blogosphere and displaying banner adverts and other forms of adverts on your blog can be one of the best ways to make money from your blogging efforts.
You also need to realize that except you’re a VERY (with emphasis on the word “very”) successful blogger with a VERY big blog you won’t become rich by displaying adverts on your blog so if you’re planning to make banner ads the main source of your blog income you need to start thinking in a different way and start focusing on building big blogs that are visited by hundreds of thousands of people monthly.
2. Affiliate Marketing
This particular tactic is becoming more popular everyday in the blogosphere and there is no doubt it is one of the most effective and passive way to make money online by blogging.
You should also know that there are various ways to utilize affiliate marketing for your blog, but the joy of it is that you can easily focus on search engine traffic and consistently interlinking your blog posts to be making more income from your blog on autopilot.
A great example of a blogger I so much respect who makes a lot of income online every month from affiliate marketing is Pat Flynn from SmartPassiveIncome.com. Pat makes as much as $20,000 online from affiliate marketing in some months mainly from his blog and he is a great example of how powerful affiliate marketing can be for bloggers as a source of income.

3. List Building
You might be confused as to why list building is included as a way to make money from blogging. Based on my own personal experiments I have noticed that a well-prepared email list can make you five times more money compared to a blog even if your blog gives two times the exposure your email list gives.
Depending on how you treat it, your email list can be your most important asset as a blogger. The best way to make money from your email list is by focusing on providing great value in the form of an autoresponder series. Since your autoresponder series will be helping others significantly there will also be situations where you will need to recommend some premium tools and you can easily make use of your affiliate links in cases like this.
Another way your email list can help you make money as a blogger is that it is a great source of publicity. You can easily send an email to your list when you launch a product, when you start a consulting service or when you need clients for an important aspect of your business. The more exposure you can get for your business the more money you can make, and that is exactly what an email list does.
4. Product Creation
Even though I haven’t personally created a product and don’t plan to do so anytime soon I know a lot of bloggers who have had great success with it. A great example is Glen Allsopp who made over $30,000 from launching a particular eBook. We are also familiar with Corbett Barr who has a lot of successful online courses he reports to have made him several thousands of dollars and we all know the super successful Darren Rowse who makes hundreds of thousands of dollars from launching his own products.
Glen Allsopp reports that his products make him thousands of dollars consistently even after months of him launching them and what this further signifies is that launching your own product isn’t just the best way to make money as a blogger, it is also one of the best ways to make PASSIVE income as a blogger.
You need to realize, though, that making money by launching your own products isn’t that simple. People don’t buy products for the fun of it, they buy products because they believe they can gain something from it and that is exactly why the bloggers I listed above are so successful. You need to have a large audience that trust and respect you to get the best from launching your products so if you’ve not been focusing on cultivating an audience for yourself it’s time to get started now.
5. Continuity Programs
You can also make passive income from your blog by launching your own continuity program (in the form of a membership site or an inner circle). Even though a lot of bloggers don’t use this approach there are highly successful bloggers getting great results by using it. Yaro Starak is known for having one of the best membership sites making him income on a consistent basis and David Risley is also highly known for his “Inner Circle” where members can get exclusive access to him at anytime. The reality is that both bloggers get great results from their systems so having your own membership site can bring in great results.
I’d also like you to know that the process of launching a continuity program isn’t the same as that of launching an eBook or a one-time product because people will think twice before subscribing to a program they will be paying monthly for so you have to make sure you deliver exceptional value while at the same time investing your efforts into growing your audience.
6. Consulting Services
You can also make money online as a blogger by launching your own consulting service. The reality is that a lot of bloggers are confused by this blogging game and are ready to give anything to understand it, and the funny thing about this is that not only are individual bloggers confused about it, companies also are and in most cases, will pay thousands of dollars to have a clear understanding of the system so as to get the best from it.
You can easily make money from offering consulting services on your blog by positioning yourself as an expert in your field and then creating more awareness about your consulting service. It will also help if you can help people see that you get results, people invest in results nowadays more than they invest in theory so you will increase your likelihood of success by showing them that you know what you’re saying.
When some people hear the term “freelancing” as a way to make money online the first thing they think about are sites like Elance and Odesk. Even though these sites are some of the top freelancing portals online very little happens there as far as making great income freelancing is concerned.
Blogging is a great platform and unlike with sites like Elance and Odesk you can become rich by making effective use of your blog to get clients for your freelancing business.
I make the bulk of my online income by freelancing and it was all as a result of my blog. Alex Fraiser from Blogussion now focuses on and makes the bulk of his income by freelancing for others and it is also as a result of the popularity of his blog and there are people like Sean Platt who are on the verge of building multi-million dollar businesses just by freelancing.
8. Website Flipping
When people talk about ways to make money from blogging very few people talk about this but it is also a great way to make money blogging. If you make $800 from your blog every month do you know that if you do things rightly you can easily sell your blog for as high as $10,000?
That’s the fun of blogging. There are people creating blogs specifically to sell it after some months of starting it and this is something I’m planning to start doing soon. I recently created my first niche site and I’m starting to climb to the top of the search engines for my desired keywords in no time. If you’re very good at choosing high-traffic and low-competition keywords in other niches you can easily create a few blogs and then outsource their development, once these blogs are starting to bring in income you can easily sell them for ten times the amount you make from them.
My buddy Zac Johnson is launching an eBook that covers website flipping from A-Z this week and after reading the eBook I can tell you it is one of the best on the subject. I will be giving you more details about that later this week.
9. Private Blogging Forums
If you’ve been blogging for a long period of time and you’ve been able to gain the trust and respect of your audience then this is a potentially great way to make money from your blog.
The great thing about having a private membership forum is that it often requires less effort to maintain compared to selling your own products because it can easily strive on the content generated by the users of the forum – however it is important for you to also be active there so as to show users that they’re getting the best from their efforts.
Creating a private forum for your blog might sound like a great idea but you also need to realize that it can be very difficult to get people to join your forum so you should focus on building a great audience first.
A great example of a private blogging forum is the Problogger.com forum by Darren Rowse.
10. JV Offers/Partnerships
If you’re very good at marketing but don’t like the idea of creating your own product for one reason or the other you can easily go this route.
I have never seen this strategy effectively demonstrated as Brian Clark of Copyblogger does it. The guy is a pretty smart dude and even though he hardly creates his own products he makes millions of dollars online every year. The funny thing is that he also hardly use any of the above listed strategies. The question now is, how is he doing it?
By partnering with others.
What Brian does is look for great talents with great products. When Brian sees a product he loves he then joins the team so as to make the product the best and up to the level of the reputation he has built. He then does all he can to market the product and he makes a lot from it.
There’s nothing stopping you from following this approach. Partnering with other great product creators can be a great way to build a great business without having to worry about the technical aspects of things. Once you have an audience willing to buy and you know the marketing game well you will be able to build a solid blogging business based on this strategy alone.
