On the 2nd of June, 2016, I floated the idea of doing a challenge in which I go from scratch — without using my existing influence and resources — and earn $1,000 monthly as a freelance writer within two months. The idea was overwhelmingly welcomed, with over 400 people expressing interest in the challenge in a matter of days!

Earn Your First $1,000 as a Freelance Writer: How to Get High-Paying Clients by Cold Pitching

A lot of exciting things have happened since I announced the Earn Your First $1,000 as a Freelance Writer challenge.  Here are some of the highlights:

  • Thousands of people have expressed interest in the challenge and are following each and every update.
  • The Facebook group for the challenge currently has over 1,700 members.
  • Many members of the group have created their website and gotten feedback through the group.
  • At least five people have made it known that they got accepted to write for The Huffington Post as a result of the challenge.

Earn Your First $1,000 as a Freelance Writer: Prospecting for Clients

As you have probably noticed from my strategy for the Earn Your First $1,000 as a Freelance Writer challenge, a core part of the process involves cold pitching; in fact, I have to send 30 – 50 cold pitches every day. That’s a lot of cold pitches, and it will only be effective if I send my cold pitches to the right people.

The real question, however, is, “How do I find the right potential clients to send cold pitches to?”

In this article, I will be sharing my process for prospecting for clients. I will be sharing the criteria I use to find clients as well as the tools and techniques I use when prospecting for clients.
