If you’re new here, I publish my income and traffic report on this blog every month. These reports show you exactly how much traffic I got, and exactly how much money I made in a particular month. I have several reasons for publishing these reports, but the major reason is to inspire you to see what you can achieve online just by writing.
I’d like you to know that by publishing these reports I’m not trying to insinuate that you will get the kind of results I get. There are a lot of people online getting better results than I am, and there are a lot more people who find it difficult to get results. The result you get is all about what your inspiration is, the belief you have in yourself and how committed you are towards your success. The main purpose of my income and traffic reports is to help you have these traits so as to be able to take your writing career forward.
September is all about the Importance of Investing in Your Business
A lot of cool things happened in September, but one thing I have observed is that everything that happened in September proved the importance of investing in your business. I made a lot of investments for my business a few months ago, and I started to reap the rewards of these investments in September. I know you might be wondering how you can invest in your business if you’re a writer, or if you don’t have a blog, but it is possible to invest in yourself no matter what you are doing. If you’re a writer, you can easily invest your money or time in buying courses, buying and reading books, attending webinars, and spending your money on other programs intended to help you improve your career.
One thing you need to realize, though, is that not all investments will pay you instantly. For some investments, you will start seeing results immediately, and for some, you won’t see results for years. Does that mean you shouldn’t invest in anything that doesn’t produce instant results? Absolutely not! Sometimes, those things that took some time to produce results will end up producing the best results.
If you’re wondering what investments brought me results in February, I’ll be explaining right away. A few months ago, I purchased a critique of my blog from Chris Garrett. In that critique Chris showed me a lot of things that were wrong with my blog, and he even gave tips on how to make my blog stand out from the crowd. I took his tips, I implemented the changes, and my blog is starting to enjoy its highest rate of success, ever. I also hired Joost De Valk for an SEO critique of this blog, and I then hired my designers at Blazer Six to help me implement Joost’s advice into a new blog design. With a lot of other changes, I paid over $3,000 for the new design, but just a few days after installing it, traffic to my blog from the search engines has increased by at least 30%. To be more specific, search engine traffic to my blog increased from around 250 per day to an average of 350 per day, and even up to 400 per day in some days. If you’re into the business of advertising, then you will know how much 100 additional visitors a day (that’s 3,000 more visitors in a month) is worth.
In other words, just by purchasing Chris G’s critique, Joost’s critique, and a new blog design (those three things cost more than $4,000), I was able to boost my blog traffic significantly, in a way that will lead to a lot more than I invested in the nearest future.
The traffic to this blog in September is the highest ever, and I don’t think it will be possible without a combination of the above 3 investments. It is just the 10th of this month and I already have over 15k visitors to this site (that’s more than I was getting a few months ago); a sign that traffic this month will be better than the last.
Investing wisely definitely pays, you just need to know where you should be investing in. I plan to create a “resources” page featuring some of the best free and paid tool I invest in very soon, so, stay tuned!
While traffic alone isn’t enough, I got quite a few client request last month (even though I’m still yet to put up that ‘hire me’ page), but I didn’t accept any new clients. The reason for this is that I’ve been very busy and don’t think I have the capacity to take on new clients. I’m still working on that project I talked about last month, that will make it easy for me to get a lot more done, and I’ll start taking more clients as soon as everything is set.
Without wasting anymore of your time, let’s go straight into the traffic report for the month of September.
September 2011 Traffic Report
September was a cool month for this blog in terms of traffic, and I got over 30k visitors in September alone, making it the best month ever for this blog in terms of traffic. I didn’t really do any promotion for this blog in September, and I also only published 8 articles in September, so I think that number is justifiable. In fact, it is awesome, but that doesn’t mean I’ll be slacking anytime soon. I plan to reach 50k monthly visitors before the end of this year, and I will give anything I can to ensure my success.

Like many of you are already aware, I use various analytics software for this blog because I love stats, and I also love seeing the number of people who visit my blog. Below is my September traffic screenshot according to Clicky.
According to Clicky, I got 37,298 visitors in September, which is almost 40k visitors. While that is impressive, Google Analytics actually disagrees, and I guess I’d have to go with Google Analytics for now. Sorry Clicky!

Based on my Google Analytics statistics for September, I’ll be giving you an idea of how much traffic I got in September, where the traffic came from and which articles brought the traffic.

One thing you can easily notice from this report is that Stumbleupon sent the highest number of visitors, the top content got almost 20k views, and search engine traffic has increased.
One major lesson I learned from this report is never to discount social media traffic. It looks really cool to be able to get around 3,000 visitors to your blog in a single day, and social media makes that extremely easy.
My income for September wasn’t as great as that of August, but I think August brought about a great change in the history of my income forever, and even though September income isn’t as great as August, it is my third greatest month of income ever.

Lesson Learned: Have Some Fun!
To be sincere, I was surprised after the end of the month to see that I can still make over $5,000. Initially, I planned to make a lot more, but my plans changed during the course of the month so I didn’t expect to make that much, but I’m glad my income wasn’t affected that much (or I’d like to think so!)
I spent the most of September playing. I have always been inside the house, in front of my computer, for years now, and it won’t be a surprise when I tell you I just started to learn to ride a bicycle for the first time in my life in September. I decided to spend the most of September learning to ride a bike, I attempted a lot of new skills with my bike and in the process, I sustained quite some injury. In fact, I had an almost major accident on my bike recently, and it is only thanks to God I didn’t sustain any major injury or land in the hospital. But, was it worth it? Yes! Will I happily do it again? Yes! I had so much fun in September, and even when I sustained those injuries, I was smiling, and I told myself it is the price I have to pay!
There is no point in making a lot of money if you can’t spend it or enjoy your life every once in a while, and even though I bought my bike for less than $200, it was worth it, and I can happily say I enjoyed my money in it.
I have a lot of plans this month, so I might not be able to spend a lot of time with my bike like I did last month, but trust me, I’m going to have some fun! 🙂
