How To Maximize Your Earning Potential As A Freelance Writer

This is a guest post by Sushant.

The world of freelance writing can be very stressful at time, especially when you feel like you are underpaid.

You do not have to be underpaid; you can actually make a ton of money as a freelance writer just like Onibalusi is making every month. I am sure many of you are inspired by him making so much money through freelance writing.

You just have to make sure you are not making any profit draining mistakes that a lot of freelance writers make.

Even if your writing skills are not that good, with the right blueprint you can be making more than those with regular jobs.

• Try To Increase Your Productivity

The reason why you might not be making the money you want as a freelance writer is because you are working too slowly.

Are you still doing things the old way?

There are tools available now that can make the process easier, such as dictation software. You can also analyze certain parts of your work to see which areas take you the most time and find a way to do them faster. Working faster equals higher earnings.

Target High Paying Clients

It is a good idea to start off with low paying clients when you are trying to get your feet wet. You do not want to base your entire freelance writing career on that type of work though.

Once you feel you are ready try going for some of the more high paying assignments. Try to shoot for magazine articles, target mid-sized businesses, and other high paying clients. These people are accustomed to paying good money for articles.

Keep Your Pipeline Filled With Work

It is very important for you to never let your pipeline get empty. Your pipeline refers to how much work you have on your plate in order to keep you busy for a certain period of time.

In order to do this you must create a demand for your work. One of the best ways to do this would be to specialize. Specializing in one or more areas will enable you to charge more and get more work, because people want certain subjects written by experts.

Get Repeat Work From Well Paying Clients

One good way to maximize your earning potential as a freelance writer is to make sure you are getting repeat business. When you get repeat business you do not have to rely on advertising or referrals for work. The best way to do this would be to do each clients assignments to the best of your ability.

The more pleased your clients are with the work you submit, the more likely they will be to hire you again.

Provide Good Client Service

Your clients are going to have problems sometimes, and they are going to want you to answer some questions for them. Even though this may take some time, it is important that you are patient and that you provide good client care.

If you give clients a hard time it will kill your profits because clients do not like to work with a writer they feel is too demanding or is unwilling to listen to their wants.

Getting Referrals From Past Clients

One of the best ways to keep a steady stream of money coming in along with building your social proof would be getting past clients to give you referrals. When you have past clients recommending you to other possible clients you do not have to work as hard to get them.

Also, the more you build your social proof the easier it will be for you to increase your prices marginally in the future.

Know How Good You Are

If you want to maximize your earning potential as a freelance writer then you cannot charge too little for your services. In order to charge more money though, you must know if you are good enough to be charging more.

The best way to do this would be looking at the number of clients you have had, testimonials, referrals, and repeat business from past customers. The better these things are the more you could justify charging more.

Do Not Write Free Samples

One way to kill your profit potential instead of maximizing it would be writing free samples for potential clients.

You are giving away time for free and in most cases you might even be getting scammed. Provide samples that you have created just for that sole purpose. Do not waste time you can never get back on writing a fresh sample for a potential client.

Be Unconventional About Getting Clients

Sometimes maximizing your potential means doing nontraditional things. There are plenty of blog owners and webmasters who need contact. Some of them will never learn of your services unless you present yourself to them in a personal e-mail.

So going to a number of different websites and sending a personal e-mail explaining who you are and what you offer is a good way to get your business in front of them.

Ending Up

Your earnings will definitely increase as a freelance writer if you do these things. One last note, avoid wasting time on a client who changes the scope of a project after they have signed a contract with you. This will most likely require you to do more work then what was agreed upon, and the client in most cases will not offer to pay more for the extra time spent.
