How to Install WordPress from Cpanel

I got a mail from one of my readers last week, He was asking me how he can install wordpress via Cpanel. I thought to myself, “why should this be what would just be said and end in a mail?”, I will need the use of images to explain better so I decided to come up with this post on how to install wordpress via cpanel.

If you are using a free or unreliable host, I will suggest you give my host a trial. They cost $6.99 per month for unlimited package (hosting, email, storage, bandwidth e.t.c.). They will also give you a free domain name for the first year. They are SecureSignup (Aff link).

To the main point…

1. Go to cpanel and Click on Fantastico Deluxe

cpanel

Your Cpanel can be gotten by typing yourdomain.com/cpanel, you will need to enter the username and password provided by your host.

2. Click on wordpress at the sidebar

wordpress install

3. Click on new installation

new installation

4. Select your domain

new installation 2

5. If you want your domain name to be in the main directory e.g. “writersincharge.com”, don’t enter anything in the install in directory field, but if you want it to be in a subdirectory e.g. “writersinchargecom/blog”, enter the name of the directory e.g. “blog” in the install in directory field.

6. Enter your admin username and password, the one you will be using to login. Enter your admin nickname that will be showing on your posts, e.g. mine is “Onibalusi Bamidele”, enter your admin nickname, sitename and description.

7. Click the install wordpress button and then click finish installation on the next display.

You have now finished installing wordpress, just head over to “yourdomain.com/wp-admin” to login and work on your blog.

Hope you loved this tutorial? Any addition, correction and the likes will be welcome.

I am open-minded and I am blogging for you, so I give you this opportunity to ask any blogging related question you want to ask and it will be addressed in a new post.

    Hey man,

Just wanna give you a tip, a great host is also justhost.com it’s only $3,45 per month and they are the most reliable I have seen.

By the way, which country are you from? Can’t seem to find where you’re from on your site.

    • Onibalusi Bamidele says:

      Hi Sheldon,

That is great, how is your experience with them? I recommended mine because I have a good experience with them.

I am from Nigeria, All about me is on my about page.

      Thanks a lot,
      -Onibalusi

      • Spyros says:

        Just to clarify,
i have a really bad experience with justhost. They even suspended one of my websites due to heavy traffic, without any notice at all. I wouldn’t suggest that host.

My experience with them has been good so far. I haven’t experienced any downtime and their customer support is the best I have ever dealt with.

I also noticed that from your blog.

Everybody love ease and what you said earlier should be a quality if a good host, they should always be ready to help their clients.

  6. Some host have Softaculous instead of Fantastico and some have Installtron. Basically all of those software installers have the same kind of method. This post is pretty useful to newbies.

Hey Onibalusi, I am pretty much Skeptic about your host. It seems they are a part or a reseller of Bytehost. Bytehost is not a good host. Search their reviews yourself using Google. I have used thier hosting one and they are toally unreliable, huge downtimes and very less resources. I think it is because you are using WordPress that you have not got any errors but when you use other scripts you will get many errors. They also ban your site if you get huge traffic. Believe me I have been through a lot of webhosts, free, resellers and the top ones. Another thing is that you should stay away from resellers.

I know many of them may have good customer support and may be helpful but when it comes to your own site, you have to be very alert. What if your host zaps of the internet, what would you do then. And at the price of $6.99 you can get many good host, believe me. Some of them are Hostgator, Arvixe, Dreamhost.
I really hope so you get my point 😉 Even if you don’t get it now, you will get it later but at that time it will be too late

    Fantastico is, well, fantastic!

Years ago I had to slog through, editing the admin files, uploading the the server and setting everything up. Now I just use CPanel to install a blog – cuts a good 15 to 20 minutes which is a lot in this day and age.

    Thanks for sharing.

I also had a bad experience with Justhost which led me to change my host to Godaddy. Well that was a year ago and their customer service sucked. I don’t know about them now.
I also tried Fantastico, and they aren’t that bad either.

    • Onibalusi Bamidele says:

      Hi Adam,

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience with us.

      -Onibalusi

  9. I agree with Murlu Fantasico is so much quicker. It’s all about just 5 minutes job to install a wordpress if you have a good host.

Today, we released a free tool that helps people install WordPress into CPanel hosting basically instantly.

No more Fantastico etc. etc. You simply supply your CPanel details and it does the rest. I’d like you to try it out and let me know what you think.

We’re developing the tool, so all feedback is welcome.
