My Income and Traffic Report – December 2010

monthly income reportFirst, to all my wonderful readers I say HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

So “many” things are going to change in the year 2011 and I plan to make this year my best year ever. One of those things that will change is that from henceforth I will begin to display my income and traffic report and beneath each of my reports I will do my best to explain how I was able to achieve what I achieved.

There are many reasons I’m doing this but I want to assure you that I’m not trying to come across as someone who is egotistical (I don’t care about my ego – hmm, maybe a little πŸ˜‰ ).

One of the reasons I will be doing this is to make myself accountable to myself because as someone who cares about my ego (like I said above – a little) I wouldn’t want to come across as someone who made less money than the previous month, I will always want to do my best to increase my monthly income since I’m not the only one who will be knowing about it but my readers too.

Another reason I will be doing this is to let people see that I truly know what I’m saying. I’m not just another guy setting up a blog to make money online (very little of my income comes directly from my blog) but I want people to see me as a young guy who knows what he is saying.

With that made clear I will like to specially thank Pat Flynn from Smart Passive Income for being my greatest inspiration in 2010, he even inspired me to start this. Thanks Pat! And to those who think this is something big I will advise you to check Pat’s income report, mine is a dwarf compared to it.

Important Things in The Month of December

Writing Services

A lot of important things happened in December and one of it being that I started monetizing my blog officially in the month of December. December will be the first month of me making what I can call a worthwhile income in my 9 months of blogging.

I also got “employed” by a company to be offering my services on a full-scale. I won’t say more than that.

Guest Posts

I’m also happy because something great happened to me as far as my guest blogging career is concerned. I got my first guest post published on Problogger. You can read my Problogger guest post on blogging myths.

I was also interviewed by Several people in December, two great ones I wouldn’t want you to miss are this and this from Bryce and Ryan. If you would like to interview me on how I make money online or anything related to blogging and entrepreneurship feel free to get in touch – I will be very happy to help, irrespective of how big or small your blog is.

The above are what I consider important happenings in my blogging career in December 2010 so let’s go straight to my monthly report.

Traffic Report

I did little to nothing to improve my traffic in December 2010 and I also experienced a traffic dip in December. Below is my Google Analytics traffic screenshot for the month of December, 2010.

google analytics

Even though the above graph says the average time spent on site is 01:58 minutes the reality is that readers spend an average of over 4 minutes on my blog. I think the above was as a result of me getting a lot of Stumbleupon traffic in December. I have attached a graph of my top 10 posts in December so you can have an idea of the average time spent on WritersinCharge.

top 10 posts

Here are some key traffic stats for December 20101 according to Google Analytics.

No of Visitors: 9,149

Page views: 15,342

Bounce Rate: 72.70%

Average Time on Site: 01:58

Top 5 Referrers

If you’re interested in knowing who the top referrers to WritersinCharge were in December, they’re:

1. Stumbleupon

2. Direct

3. Google Organic

4. Mailing List (start building your list, people! I got almost 500 visitors from my list in December only – I didn’t email all my posts.)

5. Problogger.

I know I’m supposed to get more than the above number of visitors in December 2010 but it was due to several things. First, I reduced promoting my blog significantly. Second, My Google traffic reduced from over 2800 to 1300. So I lost a minimum of 1500 visitors from Google alone in December, I’ll have to look into this.

The Top 5 Keywords

If you’re interested in knowing the top 5 keywords that people use to find this blog they’re displayed below.

1. Unethical Marketing (It seems marketers love my Young Entrepreneur Blog πŸ™‚ )

2. Happy Birthday Mother (Aha, that’s what I get for wishing my mother happy birthday πŸ™‚ )

3. Pagerank Update 2010 (This is ironic, even though Google has decided not to update my PR)

4. Onibalusi (That’s what I get for doing a little bit of branding – I will work on making this number 2 or 3)

5. Young Pre Pro (It is WritersinCharge, people!)

I would have loved to display the top posts but I think you can get the idea from the above graph.

Subscribers and Fans

Total number of Subscribers: 1124

Total number of Facebook Fans: 273

Total number of Twitter Followers: 1271

December 2010 Income Report

My December 2010 income is far lesser than I expected and this is mostly because of my health. I was so sick in December that I was unable to access my computer for a whole day – not to talk about the days I was online like someone who wasn’t ;).

Services: $2512.5

Contests: $225

Adsense/Affiliate Sales: $25

Total: $2762.5

I know the above is a little income compared to what so many bloggers earn so I plan to “at least” double it in January. It isn’t bad for a 17 year old “boy” either.

Since people love graphs I have decided to make a cool income graph for you below.

income graph

From the above graph it is evident that 91% of my income comes from me offering my services to others so I think I will have to focus on this more than my other income sources.

My 2010 Goals

Many people see my results as impressive but I’m far from what I want to achieve. In case you don’t know, I’m a great day-dreamer and I’m happy to be. If you want to know what I mean you can read my 2010 goals below.

1. To Get a Minimum of 20,000 (20k) subscribers before December 2010.

2. To start making five figures before December 2010 (I’m presently at 4 figures).

3. To be getting a minimum of 1,000 daily visitors before the end of 2010.

4. To be the top young entrepreneur blog online.

5. To write the highest number of guest posts in 2010 (With almost 400 guest posts in 2010 I think I achieved this).

6. To be the one who commented the most on other blogs in 2010 (I later discovered this was stupid so I stopped aiming at it).

For someone who was a relatively new blogger I can tell you this is pretty unrealistic…but I set my mind to it and even though I couldn’t get there I still achieved something I’m proud of.

2011 Goals

Since I hardly achieved any of my 2010 goals I will focus on achieving the above goals in 2011 too. Let’s see if I can get there or not – I’m so optimistic of achieving all.

Lessons Learned

I learnt a lot of lessons in the month of December, more than ever in my blogging career and a major lesson I learnt is that you can truly think and grow rich.

I hardly had an impressive income until after 8 months of me starting this blog but I was so determined not to quit. Even though a lot of people (even family members) didn’t fully support my decision spending countless hours blogging everyday they began to respect me after seeing my achievements (especially income wise).

I have been so optimistic about my success in the past few days as far as 2011 is concerned in such a way that I’ve never felt before. I see myself going great heights and I see success very close to me. I’m sure this will be my best year ever.

This blog is not about me but YOU and it will be foolish of me talking about myself without talking about you. However, I see most of what I said about myself above as babbling and rubbish and I’ve reserved the golden key to success for you all in a few words. Jesus thought this key and almost all the greatest men that ever lived did. That golden key is that anything you focus your mind on you will surely achieve. There might be a delay, but remember, delay is not denial!

Cool Things Coming Ahead

I have hired a designer (Pat Flynn’s designer) to help me do a complete redesign of this blog and it will be costing me a minimum of $1500. Even though that looks like much money but I think what matters most is the value I get, I want a great design that will make my content more presentable and easy to share while helping me convert a large percentage of my visitors to subscribers. I so much trust Pat and his recommendation and I’m sure his designer will give us the best.

I’m expecting the design to be completed late January or early February so stay tuned!

Keep In Touch

I have a lot of plans to make WritersinCharge the best and several wonderful guest authors are already showing up so I can assure you of the best in the posts I will be writing in 2011. My posts will be full of practical tips and I will be revealing the strategies I use to make thousand of dollars from this blog every month. I will also be revealing my secrets on how I’m “building” a successful blog so make sure you subscribe. You can do that via EMAIL and RSS – and it’s totally free!

  6. technosuman says:

Hi Onibalusi! I think your traffic report is really inspiring and going to inspire many bloggers on the internet to succeed in this line. Building traffic is really a major challenge.
Even if you are a good writer but you are not trying enough to bring traffic you are not going to succeed.

    • Onibalusi says:

That’s so cool to hear and I’m always happy to see people inspired by my work. Thanks so much and keep up the great work!

  7. fizanos says:

Dele, I must commend you first of all for a good job.

Secondly, do a find on your post and correct this “The above are what I consider important happenings in my blogging career in December 2011 so let’s go straight to my monthly report.” I think it should be December 2010. Don’t worry 2011 is gonna be great.

    • Onibalusi says:

      Aha Fizanos,

Thanks so much for the note. I was also suspecting something of that nature after I finished writing seeing how long the post is. I get too used to things, for example, I was referring to myself as 16 even after I wrote that I was 17…now fixed!

      Sure, 2011 will be great!

  8. Glad to see you’ve started posting income report. I love this killer report onibalusi.

Can’t wait to see your blog redesign.

Thanks for sharing and keep rocking.

Hope you have more success in 2011.

I’ll definitely keep in touch and we’re gonna brainstorm together before I choose the final concept – you really have a great taste for design. Keep up the great work bro!

    • Onibalusi says:

      Exactly Ryan,

I’m still happy with my results while hoping for more.

Thanks also for your interview, I really appreciate it!

  13. TsarShu says:

If only everyone were so careful about reporting …. By the way, I guess you should analyze carefully the high bounce rate as 72% is rather big. I’m not sure that I can suggest anything but maybe something is not completely right with your keywords but – your blog is great and as soon as I visited it, I never bounce πŸ™‚

    • Onibalusi says:

      Hi TsarShu,

If only everyone were so careful about reporting…. I’d like to know what you mean by this.

Yeah, concerning the bounce rate people spend over 4 minutes on each of my posts but I think the high bounce rate is as a result of getting a lot of stumbleupon traffic this month.

  14. ayotunde says:

This is highly commendable for a young guy, I cherish your courage and devotion, I can see now that there is so much to do to be the best among bloggers. I have subscribed and will keep spreading the news.

    Keep up the good work.

    • Onibalusi says:

Aha, that’s so cool to hear.

Keep spreading the world and I hope I can also impact lots of lives.

  15. Olusegun says:

    Happy New Year Bro,
Nice to start seeing you income and traffic details online. More grease to your elbow in 2011.

    • Onibalusi says:

      Aha Bro,

      That’s so cool to hear.

Thanks so much for the awesome support,

  16. Welner says:

Impressive man(specially that fact that you are 17) keep up the good work man! I want to get my blog started too but I just kinda feel like no one would come to see what I have to say!….. You have any tips for me?? oh and I’m fully bilingual spanish/english and I truly don’t know what language to get started on…. In a way I feel like starting it in spanish because there is less people doing this in spanish(specially in the US) but i think that people that speak spanish don’t go online as much english speaking people but anyhow I would like to know your thoughts thanks.

    • Onibalusi says:

      Hi Welner,

That is often a difficult situation but if you’re good at English I will recommend you start a blog in the English language. Most people can communicate with it and majority of the people who go online are English speakers.

      I hope this helps…

      Thanks so much!

  17. ryan @ poker training says:

Wow man! Congrats…Never realized you were only 17! You are definitely doing well for yourself and on the path to greatness!

    • Onibalusi says:

      Hi Ryan,

That’s great to hear from you.

  20. Eleazar | Entrepinoy Bank says:

Congrats, Oni! You’ve done a great job in 2010 and on your way to become a successful professional blogger even at a young age. I have no regrets following your blog. You inspired me to work also on my goals and follow my plans.

    • Onibalusi says:

That’s so cool to hear Eleazer.

Thanks so much for the nice words!

  21. ShaswatPatel says:

    Hi Oni,

I’m following your blog since mid dec. when I found your posts at Digitalpoint forum and honestly, you did excellent job and I’m glad you finally come with your traffic report as well as Earning reports! I think this is great for both, you and us(readers) as we can take some idea and do more hard work.

One thing which I noticed is bounce rate and I’m no wonder about it as StumbleUpon traffic is always caused the issue for this but you should focus on more organic traffic to increase your page views!

Also give small advice, when you write Guest blogs, try to put 1 link towards inner pages too it will be good for you.

Wish a Very successful 2011 year for you and keep doing good work I’m sure you will archive your goals which you didn’t in 2010.

    • Onibalusi says:

      Hi Shaswat,

That is so cool and thanks for the nice words.

Yes, the high bounce rate is because of more stumbleupon traffic and I’m sure everything will balance up soon.

  22. Jobs for Felons says:

Congrats on your success with ProBlogger! I’ve tried for along time to become a guest blogger on that site and haven’t had much luck. I wish you many successes in 2011 on becoming a fabulous guest blogger and I hope you get more and more visitors! Awesome site!

    • Onibalusi says:

Exactly! It was a really great experience and I’m so happy for it πŸ™‚

  23. alamin says:

Hy, oni, I am your regular reader and watching your success gradually over time. I know you had a great year and you will have a great year too. You are getting quite good amount of traffic that will inspire me, Thanks

    • Onibalusi says:

      Exactly Tushar,

Thanks a lot for the awesome support!

  26. Hi Oni,

Some huge numbers you’ve got there! And no wonder considering how much guest posting you have done throughout 2010. That one alone has probably helped you a ton to push your blog up. The income figures are more than decent as well. I bet that there are not much bloggers out there who are making more than a thousand bucks per month. And you’re going over twice that number. Awesome!

Very inspirational post. Thanks for sharing! Best of luck this year to you and your blog! πŸ™‚

    • Onibalusi says:

      Exactly Daniel,

This looks great but considering is so far from my goals I’m working hard to make sure I push it up. Let’s see how everything goes in my next income report.

      Thanks so much,

  27. Sufi M says:

Wow, incredible article. I want to earn 2,700/month!!!! I’m jealous XD. Is it hard to get accepted by ProBlogger?

    • Onibalusi says:

      Aha Sufi,

Everything is possible if you can set your heart at it and work towards it.

  31. Alex says:

    Great job Oni!

What kind of services do you offer? I want to offer them too :D.

I think I finally start to understand why picking a good niche is a must, I have more visitors in one or two hours (from search engines) then you in a month :P, but the winning are too small for my likings.

I say it again, great job and I hope you will make way more this year!

    • Onibalusi says:

      Aha Alex,

Just for complete transparency’s sake. I’m offering my guest blogging services to a company.

Yeah, this year is certain in the Lord Jesus Christ. I’m so optimistic about it…more than ever before.

  32. Alex says:

    Congrats Oni!

May 2011 see alll your hard work propser my friend – although it looks like this is already the case!

    What ‘services’ do you offer?

    • Onibalusi says:

      Amen! Amen! and Amen!

Thanks so much for the prayer buddy!

I offer guest blogging services to a company.

  33. Dave Grimes II says:

Sounds like a good year overall. Glad to see that you are not being thrown-off, or getting too down about having fallen short on some of your 2010 goals.

Having sat back and looked over your results form this year, what advice would you give to help other bloggers to achieve their goals? (In other words, what do you think kept you from achieving your 2010 goals, and what do you plan to do differently in 2011?)

    Thanks a lot.

    ~Dave Grimes II

    • Onibalusi says:

      Hi Dave,

Really great question. I think what helped me achieve my goal was tenacity; I was persistently determined about achieving it and God did not let me down.

  34. Wes says:

Not too shabby, Oni! Keep up the good work and best wishes on hitting your goals in 2011!

    • Onibalusi says:

      Yeah Wes,

Thanks so much for the great wishes…I also hope I achieve my goals in 2011.

  35. Jared Holland says:

Congrats on all your success! I am new to your blog, but I will be back to read more great posts from you soon.

    • Onibalusi says:

I’m sure you will love it Jared. Just stay tuned!

  36. very good stats, BTW what all services you do?

also you must strengthen your robotos.txt since / is getting more hits

    those are robots

    • Onibalusi says:

      Hi Praveen,

Concerning the robots.txt how do I do that?

      I offer freelancing/guest blogging services.

      Thanks so much,

  37. Stella says:

That’s an impressive stats, Oni. You are a proof that hard work pays off – though it may tarry.

I first noticed you by seeing your guest posts in a couple of the blogs I frequent and you always had great contents, and I was even more impressed that you are only 17 – many people your age would have quit before month 8.

I wish you the very best in 2011 – shoot for the stars.

  38. Ron from Electricians Isleworth says:

This is a good achievements though, even you’ve got sick last December. Now I wish you more good health! And for this year, I know you will reach your goal.

  39. Adesoji Adegbulu from Make Money Online Nigeria says:

Bro.. You need to work on your bounce rate… More money to you in 2011

  40. I love your blog!

    I have a question:

What is the plugin for the signature at the bottom of your posts? I love it very much.

    You are amazing.

I still don’t understand the ‘other services’ part – how you make money off of that? Is there an article of some sort to find this out?

    Thank you,

    – Jonathan
