Social Media: A Great Way to Get More Eyeballs on Your Content

Getting quality traffic and views to your content is very critical to your success as a blogger.

Making effective use of social media sites can be a great way to get traffic to your blog. When talking about social media sites, there are 3 major type of social media sites common among bloggers and internet users, these 3 types social media sites are:

1. Social Bookmarking Sites

2. Social Networking Sites

3. Video Sites

Social Bookmarking Sites

When we talk about social bookmarking sites we will talk about the likes of Digg, Reddit, Delicious and the rest.

Social Networking Sites

When we talk about social networking sites we will be talking about the likes of twitter, facebook etc.

Video Sites

When we talk about video sites we are talking about the likes of Youtube, Vimeo, Metacafe etc.

A Quick Analysis

The world is going social and many people still believe in the old school and they believe social media is not relevant. Before writing this post I decided to analyze the traffic coming to WritersinCharge from various sites and I have compiled a graph showing the traffic in percentage.

PS: Many of you know me as an avid guest blogger who has written hundreds of guest posts this year so it is evident most of my traffic will come from referring sites, however, social media still played a great role in traffic to WritersinCharge and the graphs below will explain the percentage of visitors I’ll be losing if I ignored social media.

I also want you to know that I compiled this graph based on my top 100 traffic sources.

Graph 1 – Overall Traffic Sources

Graph 2 – Average Time on Site

Graph 3 – Average Site Bounce rate

Why Social Media?

If you have not been using social media for your website/business I will advise you to begin to use it now because social media is the future of the web. If you take a look at my graph above you will see the percentage of traffic I get from social media is still something considering I am no social media expert. I’m wondering how I will feel should I lose such amount of my traffic?

Social media has a lot of advantages including branding yourself, connecting with people, building your profile, getting traffic and many more and that is what gave birth to a new social bookmarking site.

A New Social Bookmarking Site is Born
Not by me, but by my awesome friend Dev. Blokube is a new social bookmarking site for bloggers and entrepreneurs, it is a great way for you to digest content from various awesome bloggers for various uses. This is not digg, and no, it is not stumbleupon but a quality social bookmarking site. After submitting some my my posts to Blokube I discovered I visitors from the site to WritersinCharge spend an average of 9 minutes (nine minutes). That is really impressive and shows there’s a brigth future for the site.

Thanks for your sharing, just wonder the bounce rate from Social Networks is still high and overall traffic is is till the bottom?

BTW, this review is very useful for who dominated the other traffic source and want to add more from Social Media 🙂

    • Onibalusi says:

      Hi Trang,

Yeah! The bounce rate might be another problem but you might want to convince your visitors to subscribe for updates…the action they would take depends on the quality of your post.

Hi there, I think you’re doing an awesome job and the fact that you’re 16 makes it all the better. It’s great seeing fellow entrepreneurs starting off at such a young age. Keep up the great work!

  9. Andreas says:

Traffic from social media sites and social networking sites reaches new sites long before traffic from search engines. This is why getting traffic from social media sites is important.

  10. Richard says:

    Thanks Oni,
Btw, I love the way you have those pie charts taken apart and highlights for examples.

It’s always good to get in on the ground floor of any social networking sight. Thanks for the tip on Blokube. I’ll check it out.

  11. Alex says:

    Nice post Oni!

LOve the way you broke down the traffic sources into bounce rates etc

I think Social Blogmarking (that’s my offical term for it LOL) is the way for sharing content in the future, and it will take over social bookmarking (to a point)

Dev is killing it man, and this site of his is AWESOMEE

Definitely has the keyword Reserach bloggers seal of approval.

    Great write up man!
Saves me doing it now I guess LOL (Only kidding Dev, its coming mate!)

    • Onibalusi says:

      Definitely Alex,

I’m inspired by how Glen represents his traffic, progress etc. with graphs so I decided to create this one ;).

Dev is rocking the blogosphere and blokube has a bright future.

Thanks so much for the awesome comment and RT!

  12. Not all social sites are created equal. Stumbleupon will give you huge bounce rates!

    • Onibalusi says:

I second that…funny enough, stumbleupon users spend over 2mins on my site.

  13. Frank says:

Really, I’m just getting to hear of this platform for the first time. So many of these social media platforms being released regularly that it’s easy to loose count. But, where is the time to harness all these possibilities. The next challenge soon will be how to utilize the additional quarter day component of a full year, and not wait four years to add up in a leap year to grab the cumulative one day.

    • Onibalusi says:

      Great Frank,

      I’m sure you’ll love blokube.

  14. Darrin Kuykendall - Converting Non-Believers says:

When dealing with submitting your site to various directories and bookmarking sites, the key is to automate the process.
The only problem is that I have yet to find one specific solution that will automate the bookmarking function that can give you at least a 100% success rate every time. The other problem is that some of the sites, for example, like Linkagogo, is horrible, but a lot of the automated bookmarking applications add sites like this to the list.
What’s great about Blokube, it’s a site that is structured, clean and is well designed. I can see this site providing great value if used correctly.

  15. Successful Online Business says:

I checked the Blokube sites and it seems similar to Propeller environment but I am interested on the things works there. I will subscribe to that site and see the results. It’s another social network media to check out for. I hope that it will generate more traffic for a site.

  16. Daisy @ Tinnitus Treatment says:

Social Media is really a very powerful thing but widely ignored by lot of peoples, I have seen people getting 100’s of visitors to their blog everyday just from social networking sites.
