I have been publishing my income and traffic report on this blog for some time now and it has really been an awesome experience. My major aim for writing these reports is to inspire people and let them see that it is truly possible to make money online, and there is truly hope as far as blogging is concerned. I’ve been getting feedback from readers whom after seeing my traffic report are starting to utilize guest blogging for their blogs and I’ve been getting feedback from readers whom after reading my income report are starting to bring back to live their dead online businesses.
It’s also been a wonderful experience for me because I’m growing in every facets. The feedback from my income and traffic report has inspired posts which are instant successes as soon as I publish them and even though my main aim for publishing these reports is to help people and make them trust me, one thing I’m starting to see from it is that it is making me understand my readers better thus making it very easy for me to serve them.
I know not everybody agrees with me displaying my income report, but that is life. I believe it all depends on what my reasons for displaying my income and traffic report are and how many people will be impacted. Based on the feedback I get, thousands of people are being impacted by these reports every month and very few are against it so I’ll take that as a good sign to continue.
Also, I’d like you to know that I’ll be adding one more feature to these income reports to make it even perfect and to let people see that making money online isn’t as easy or fun as many think but with the right effort it is possible. The new feature I’d be adding to my income report is my monthly expense. I’ve been thinking about it for some time now but when a post was written about it on Pat Flynn’s blog I decided it will be best to give it a go.
Like every other business, blogging or any other form of online income is a business, and business has to do with expenses, revenue and blogging. I’ve mostly been blogging about my revenue on this blog and when a lot of people see it they will think that is exactly how rich I am. From now on, I’ll only be blogging about my profits. Just in case you know, I don’t buy a lot of things so my expenses will have little impact on my profit, so if I make $6,000 online in one month I can still end up with $5,000+. This isn’t the same thing for everybody but I believe what matters most is that your business keeps running – since it is your main income source, you have to ensure it is in good health.
Important Happenings in April
It is true that I love writing and I always have fun doing it but the truth is writing isn’t a form of passive income thus leading to instability in the amount of income I make every month. I understand this and that is why I have been doing a lot to ensure my online business doesn’t depend on me trading my time or skills for money, but being able to make money while I sleep so I have been revisiting some aspects of my business. One such great aspect I’m beginning to focus on is the amount of traffic that is coming to my blog from search engines so I have started guest blogging actively again. I will be doing my best this month to appear on as many blogs as I can and by this I hope to strengthen the authority of this blog as far as the search engines is concerned and also gain more search engine traffic to my blog on the long term. I have a little understanding of how search engines work and I know the results I will get won’t be instant, but I’m sure it will be worth it on the long run.
Another important thing I’ve been working on is expanding my income sources, so instead of focusing on writing alone I will have other income sources from ventures like affiliate marketing, partnership, consulting services etc. and by doing so I will have been able to grow my online real estate significantly.
Responding to Emails
It was a little difficult responding to emails in April and I still have “a few” emails waiting to be responded to. Some of you who sent me an email will notice it took some time to reply and this has a lot to do with my ineffective time management techniques, I have downloaded a software called pomodairo based on the pomodoro time management technique I first heard from Glen Allsopp. The pomodoro technique is based on you working at 25 minute intervals and then taking a 5 minutes break after every interval. It can be personally difficult to do this but it is possible with the help of the software – in fact, I wrote this post with it and I hope it’ll make a lot of things easier for me in the future.
I’m openly apologizing to those of you who’re yet to get an email reply from me and I know it’s my duty to give you a prompt response, I greatly understand the fact that my readers make my business so they can NEVER be ignored, and I can assure you of getting a reply soon.
At the same time I’d also like you to know that I don’t reply to all emails because some emails are just too vague that they do nothing but waste my time. Before sending me an email make sure you read this blog carefully to ensure there isn’t already an answer to your question, I know it might be difficult reading all of my blog posts, and I don’t even suggest that which is why I already have a search bar on the top of this blog, you can easily type your query in it and get some answers. I’d also like you to know that the type of email you send me is of utmost importance. I’m not a wordpress blogger or a design expert so when you send me emails make sure your email sticks to the subject line of my blog. If you need more help with designing, wordpress or so you can hire the experts to do that, and one great person I recommend you should get in touch with is my friend Devesh Sharma from TechnShare.com. He even has a service dedicated to that and he’ll give you the best service you desire.
To know which kind of emails I respond to and which kind I don’t I suggest you read my contact page carefully, everything is listed there.
I know it sounds kind of funny to be having rules for emails, but I’m sorry I have to do that, the amount of emails I get everyday can be overwhelming and I’ll never hire or use the help of others to help me solve my email problems, my email is me and to ensure I give users the best response possible I need you to adhere to some rules.
April 2011 Traffic Report
April was a great month for WritersinCharge and my April traffic report is the best till date. I saw a significant increase in my blog traffic for the month of April with almost 14,000 visitors to my blog and this is a good sign of growth showing that I’m doing something right.
Below are some traffic screenshots for you to see what I mean.
The above is the main traffic screenshot for April and it shows I got over 13,800 visits to this blog, a 63% bounce rate, 27,000 page views and an average time of 3 min on this site in April. If you ask me I’d say this is impressive and that doesn’t overrule the fact that this blog still needs improvement and that my marketing needs to change. Below is another screenshot of what are my highest traffic sources for the month of April.
The above list shows that my top traffic sources are mostly from search engines and other sites – this is as a result of my guest posts getting published on some big blogs last month. As a result of the recent Google Panda update my search engine traffic is also increasing and some of my old posts are becoming very popular without me doing anything to get more traffic to them. I learnt a SEO trick sometimes ago from internet marketer Richard Legg on increasing your search engine traffic and I have started to implement the trick to see how it works. When I start getting results I would let you know how everything goes.
The most fantastic aspect of this traffic report is the most popular posts in May, a lot can be learnt from these posts and you can see that yourself by taking a clear look at the image below.
Lessons Learnt from Getting Almost 14k Visitors in April
I have a whole blog post dedicated to this alone so I won’t be divulging any more secrets (I will strongly advise you to read that post!) but one major thing I’d like you to know is that nothing trumps quality content. Every top post in the month of April was of high quality and highly helpful including my income reports and even my list of dofollow blogs and the fact is that it will still be highly popular for a long time to come.
April 2011 Income Report
My income report for the month of April was the highest ever, even though I wanted to make far more than I did, but it’s all a matter of time and I’ll be in the tens of thousands of dollars monthly. Below is my income breakdown for the month of April.
Writing Services: $5,000
Affiliate Marketing: $121.75
Aside displaying my income reports I think another aspect I need to really focus to let people know that this is a business is the aspect of the expenses so that people don’t just think you make money while investing none. Below are my expenses for the month of April.
Web Hosting: $139
Expert Makeover: $250
Other Expenses: $100
Total Expenses: $489
The above are my expenses for the month of April as far as my business is concerned. As far as I know, even if my expenses is deducted from my revenue I still make enough money to justify me working on the internet compared to having a 9-5 job. Making money online takes time and requires an investment. As far as purchasing products online is concerned I don’t purchase any product unless it is the best, and I only buy courses from trusted internet marketers I highly respect – it’s all about implementing and not just reading. As far as I am concerned I have bought every product I know of by Glen Allsopp and I won’t think twice before buying a product Pat Flynn launches, I’m a follower of their work and I trust them.
‘Lesson’ Learnt from Making $5,000+ in April
Stop looking for quick ways to make money online and start focusing on helping people with what you’re best at. A lot of people email me telling me writing isn’t a form of passive income. I know this, but it makes me money, and as long as I love it and I’m focusing on improving other aspects of my business that make me passive income I don’t think I have much of a problem.
